Talisman

TALISMAN, composed in the spring of 1997, was written especially for the American tuba/euphonium ensemble Symphonia and dedicated to Bobbie Morris, wife of R. Winston Morris, Symphonia’s artistic director. It was premiered by Symphonia at the 1997 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference in Riva del Garda, Italy under the baton of the composer, who is also a member of the ensemble. They later recorded it on their «La Morte dell’ Oom» CD on Mark Records. A talisman is an object thought to act as a charm, with powers of good luck or healing. This fanfare-like work is intended to showcase the power and musical excitement that a large tuba-euphonium ensemble can create. John Stevens
